Soft Glazed Maple Donuts

  • Author: Julia
  • Total Time: 50 minutes
  • Yield: 12 donuts 1x

Description

A simple homemade treat featuring soft, pillowy donuts with a sticky, sweet maple glaze that the whole family will love. Perfect for breakfast, brunch, or anytime you crave a comforting sweet.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour (320g)
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ⅓ cup granulated sugar (65g)
  • 1 cup milk (240ml), whole milk preferred
  • 1 large egg
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter (56g), melted
  • ½ cup pure maple syrup (120ml) for glaze
  • 1 cup powdered sugar (120g) for glaze
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, and granulated sugar.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk milk, egg, melted butter, and vanilla extract until smooth. Ensure butter is not too hot.
  4. Pour wet ingredients into dry ingredients and stir gently until just combined. Batter will be thick with some lumps; do not overmix.
  5. Fill each cavity of a non-stick 6-cavity donut pan about ¾ full using a spoon or piping bag.
  6. Bake for 12-15 minutes until donuts are puffed, lightly golden, and a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  7. Let donuts cool in the pan for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely before glazing.
  8. To make the glaze, warm maple syrup gently in a small saucepan over low heat. Remove from heat and whisk in powdered sugar until smooth and glossy. Adjust thickness with milk or powdered sugar as needed. Stir in ½ teaspoon vanilla extract.
  9. Dip the top of each cooled donut into the glaze or brush it on evenly. Place back on the wire rack and let glaze set for 15-20 minutes.
  10. Optionally, sprinkle chopped pecans or walnuts on top of the glaze before it sets.

Notes

Do not overmix the batter to keep donuts soft. Use real pure maple syrup for the glaze for best flavor. Let donuts cool completely before glazing to avoid sogginess. Store glazed donuts in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days. Reheat gently in microwave or oven. Donuts can be frozen unglazed for up to 2 months.
