Fudgy Peanut Butter Swirl Brownies

  • Author: Julia
  • Total Time: 40-45 minutes
  • Yield: 16 brownies 1x

Description

These fudgy peanut butter swirl brownies combine rich chocolate and creamy peanut butter in a simple, easy-to-make recipe that yields perfectly gooey, indulgent treats.

Ingredients

Scale
  • ⅓ cup unsweetened cocoa powder (35g)
  • ¾ cup all-purpose flour (95g)
  • 1 cup granulated white sugar (200g)
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, melted and slightly cooled (115g)
  • 2 large eggs, room temperature
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • ½ cup creamy peanut butter (125g), natural or regular
  • Optional: ¼ cup chocolate chips (45g)
  • Optional: sea salt flakes for sprinkling

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line an 8×8-inch baking pan with parchment paper, leaving an overhang for easy removal.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together cocoa powder, flour, sugar, salt, and baking powder until evenly combined.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk melted butter, eggs, and vanilla extract until smooth and slightly frothy. Ensure butter is not hot to avoid cooking the eggs.
  4. Pour wet ingredients into dry ingredients and fold gently with a spatula until just combined. Batter should be thick and glossy.
  5. Warm peanut butter slightly in the microwave (about 20 seconds) to make swirling easier.
  6. Drop spoonfuls of peanut butter evenly over the batter in the pan. Use a butter knife or skewer to swirl the peanut butter through the batter in a figure-eight or circular motion, being careful not to overmix.
  7. Optional: Sprinkle chocolate chips over the top and add a pinch of sea salt flakes for a salty-sweet contrast.
  8. Bake for 25-30 minutes. Start checking at 25 minutes by inserting a toothpick; it should come out with a few moist crumbs but no wet batter.
  9. Cool brownies completely in the pan on a wire rack before cutting. Use parchment overhang to lift brownies out for neat slices.
  10. For clean cuts, chill brownies for 30 minutes after cooling.

Notes

Use room temperature eggs for better texture. Warm peanut butter before swirling to avoid tearing the batter. Do not overbake to maintain fudgy texture. Use parchment paper for easy removal and clean edges. Chill brownies before cutting for neat slices. Optional chocolate chips and sea salt flakes add extra flavor contrast.
