Fresh Blackberry Lime Lemonade

  • Author: Julia
  • Total Time: 50 minutes
  • Yield: 6 servings 1x

Description

A vibrant and refreshing summer drink made with fresh blackberries, lime juice, and simple syrup. Perfectly balanced tartness and sweetness with a beautiful deep purple color.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups fresh blackberries (about 300g)
  • 4 medium limes, juiced (about ½ cup or 120ml fresh lime juice)
  • ½ to ¾ cup granulated sugar (100-150g), adjustable to taste
  • 5 cups water (1 cup hot water for syrup, 4 cups cold water for diluting)
  • Ice cubes, for serving
  • Fresh mint leaves (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Combine ½ cup sugar and 1 cup water in a small saucepan. Heat over medium, stirring occasionally until sugar dissolves completely. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
  2. Juice 4 medium limes to yield about ½ cup fresh lime juice. Optionally zest one lime before juicing for garnish.
  3. Place blackberries in a large pitcher and gently muddle with a spoon or muddler to release juices without turning to mush.
  4. Pour 1 cup water over the muddled berries and stir. Strain the mixture through a fine mesh strainer into a bowl or directly into the pitcher to remove seeds and pulp, pressing gently to extract juice.
  5. Add the lime juice and cooled simple syrup to the blackberry juice in the pitcher. Pour in the remaining 3 cups cold water and stir well to combine. Adjust sweetness or tartness by adding more syrup or lime juice if desired.
  6. Refrigerate the lemonade for at least 30 minutes to chill and allow flavors to meld.
  7. Serve over ice cubes and garnish with fresh mint leaves or a lime wheel if desired.

Notes

Use fresh blackberries for best flavor and color; frozen can be used but flavor will be less vibrant. Fresh lime juice is essential for bright flavor. Strain blackberry juice to avoid bitterness from seeds. Adjust sweetness gradually. For a sparkling version, replace 2 cups cold water with sparkling water before serving. Simple syrup and lime juice can be prepared a day ahead and stored separately in the fridge.
