Description
A quick and easy dessert made by wrapping seasoned apple pieces in wonton wrappers and air frying or deep frying them until golden and crisp, then coating in cinnamon sugar.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 package wonton wrappers (40–50 wrappers)
- 3 medium apples (Honeycrisp, Granny Smith, or Fuji), peeled, cored, and diced into ¼ inch cubes
- 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
- ½ cup granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
- ½ teaspoon ground ginger
- Vegetable oil or neutral oil (for frying or air frying)
- Water (for sealing wrappers)
Instructions
- Peel and core the apples, then dice them into uniform ¼ inch cubes.
- In a bowl, toss the diced apples with 1 tablespoon of melted butter, 1 tablespoon of granulated sugar, and ½ teaspoon of cinnamon. Let sit while preparing wrappers.
- Keep wonton wrappers covered with a damp towel to prevent drying out. Place one wrapper on a surface and brush edges lightly with water to act as glue.
- Place about 1 tablespoon of the apple mixture in the center of the wrapper. Fold into a triangle, pressing edges to seal. Bring opposite corners together to form an egg roll shape, ensuring no gaps remain.
- For Air Fryer Method: Preheat air fryer to 375°F (190°C). Lightly spray bites with oil and cook for 8-10 minutes, flipping halfway, until golden brown and crispy.
- For Deep Fry Method: Heat oil to 350°F (175°C). Fry bites for 2-3 minutes, turning once, until golden brown. Drain on paper towels.
- While still hot, toss the cooked bites in the remaining cinnamon sugar mixture to coat.
- Transfer to a cooling rack to keep crisp. Serve immediately with caramel sauce, vanilla ice cream, or whipped cream.
Notes
Keep wonton wrappers covered with a damp towel while working to prevent cracking. Do not overfill the wrappers to avoid bursting during cooking. Use a cooling rack instead of a plate to maintain crispness. For best texture, serve immediately. Leftovers can be reheated in the air fryer at 350°F for 3-4 minutes.
