Description
Crispy, caramelized apple slices baked with cinnamon sugar and finished with a drizzle of honey. A quick, foolproof, and addictive healthy-ish snack that takes only 30 minutes to make.
Ingredients
- 3 large apples (about 750g), preferably Honeycrisp, Gala, or Granny Smith, sliced into 1/8-inch rounds
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
- 1/2 cup white granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
- 2–3 tablespoons raw or clover honey
- Pinch of sea salt (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Line two large baking sheets with parchment paper.
- Wash, core, and slice apples into uniform 1/8-inch rounds. Leave skins on for color and fiber.
- In a small bowl, mix the sugar and cinnamon together.
- Place apple slices in a large bowl. Drizzle with melted butter and toss gently to coat evenly.
- Sprinkle the cinnamon-sugar mixture over the apples and toss again to coat. Reserve about 1 tablespoon of the mixture for later.
- Arrange apple slices in a single layer on the prepared baking sheets, ensuring they do not touch or overlap.
- Bake for 15 minutes, then rotate pans (top to bottom, front to back) for even browning.
- Bake for another 10-15 minutes until edges are golden brown and centers look dry. Chips will feel slightly soft when hot.
- Remove from oven and let cool on the pans for at least 10-15 minutes until crisp.
- Drizzle with warm honey, sprinkle with reserved cinnamon sugar, and add a tiny pinch of sea salt if desired.
Notes
Uniform slicing is key to even baking. Do not overcrowd the pans or the apples will steam instead of crisp. The chips will feel leathery when hot but will crisp up as they cool. Store in an airtight container with a paper towel to absorb moisture; they are best eaten within 1-2 days. If they soften, re-crisp in a 300°F oven for 5 minutes.
