Description

A quick and easy cinnamon apple crisp with a buttery oat crumble, perfect for busy weeknights. This dessert balances tart and sweet flavors with a crunchy, golden topping.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 medium apples (about 3 pounds) – mix of Granny Smith and Honeycrisp
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar (50g)
  • 1/3 cup packed brown sugar (70g), divided
  • 2 teaspoons cinnamon, divided
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice (15ml)
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour (65g)
  • 1 cup rolled oats (90g)
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter (115g), cold and cubed
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)
  • 1/2 cup chopped nuts (walnuts or pecans, optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Peel, core, and slice apples into 1/4-inch thick slices.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, toss apples with granulated sugar, 1 tablespoon brown sugar, 1 teaspoon cinnamon, lemon juice, and vanilla extract if using. Set aside.
  4. In a medium bowl, combine rolled oats, flour, remaining brown sugar, 1 teaspoon cinnamon, salt, and chopped nuts if using.
  5. Add cold, cubed butter to the oat mixture. Use a pastry cutter or fingertips to work butter into dry ingredients until mixture resembles coarse crumbs with some pea-sized butter bits.
  6. Spread the apple mixture evenly in a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  7. Sprinkle the oat crumble evenly over the apples.
  8. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes until topping is golden brown and apple juices are bubbling.
  9. Allow to cool for about 10 minutes before serving to let juices thicken.
  10. Serve warm, optionally with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.
