  • Author: Julia
  • Total Time: 14 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings 1x

Description

A crispy, spicy, and creamy shrimp recipe made in the air fryer with minimal ingredients and zero oil splatter. Perfect for a quick appetizer or main course.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound jumbo or large shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • Coconut oil or avocado oil spray
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 23 tablespoons hot sauce (Frank’s RedHot or Sriracha)
  • 12 teaspoons sugar
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice (optional)
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder

Instructions

  1. Thaw frozen shrimp if necessary and pat them completely dry with paper towels. Remove tails if desired.
  2. In a small bowl, whisk together mayonnaise, hot sauce, sugar, and garlic powder. Taste and adjust seasoning. Set aside.
  3. Place dried shrimp in a bowl and sprinkle with flour. Toss gently to lightly dust the shrimp. Shake off excess flour.
  4. Preheat air fryer to 400°F (200°C) for 3 minutes if possible. Lightly spray the air fryer basket with oil.
  5. Arrange shrimp in a single layer in the basket, ensuring they do not touch. Cook for 4 minutes, flipping at the 2-minute mark.
  6. Shrimp are done when opaque, pink, and slightly crispy at the edges. Remove from air fryer.
  7. Transfer hot shrimp to a serving bowl and pour the Bang Bang sauce over them. Toss gently to coat.
  8. Garnish with chopped scallions and sesame seeds if desired. Serve immediately.

Notes

Ensure shrimp are completely dry before coating to prevent gummy flour. Do not overcrowd the air fryer basket to ensure crispiness. For a gluten-free version, substitute all-purpose flour with cornstarch or rice flour. The sauce can be made ahead of time and stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
